WPQHA 2006 Queen Article

Dorothy Bentley

Dorothy has recently graduated from Hiram College with a BA in
Psychology. With her love for helping and working with people in
general, she plans to head back to school in the fall of 2007 to
attain a Masters in School Counseling. But for now, Dorothy is
working for her fathers excavating company where she gets down and dirty making topsoil and operating equipment. Besides working, Dorothy has been showing her mare, A Star in the Sky, "Shedaisy" actively throughout the summer and has set many goals for their team. Being Queen to Dorothy is a dream come true, but being the person who is a role model to many and having the opportunity to share her passion with horse enthusiast's whether it be her neighbor, her competition, her trainer, her parents or other dreamers across the nation, is a dream and a goal that is never-ending.

Dorothy is looking forward to all of the events the Queen Competition entails this October. She plans on doing the best she can to show all of the people who have helped and supported her that it was worth it and she appreciates it. Dorothy would like to thank her family for their driven support, love and encouragement. She would also like to thank her trainer, Lisa Mathews, for always being there for her and "Shedaisy" and being the best coach, trainer and friend to keep her together at all times.

She wants to thank Western Pennsylvania Quarter Horse Association for the opportunity of a lifetime and she wants and plans to make them proud.

  Notes from Dorothy:

The 2005 Queen Competition will be one I will never forget. With all of the help, encouragement, support and love I received from everyone, I feel as if I did the best I could for my first time in the competition.

Overall I was 6th place out of 33 women from across the nation. I received scores of 98, 100 and 100 on the oral interview. This left me tied at 2nd place, but because of tie breaker judges, I received 5th place in the interview. I placed 7th on the test and received a 2nd, 8th and 22nd in the horsemanship which left me at 10th place overall. I am very proud to say that I was one of the few women to have placed in all three categories of the contest.

Not only did I have fun competing against all of these women, this was a life time experience. Being able to participate in an autograph signing session, a fashion show, field trips, handing out awards and living, eating and sleeping with people who all share some of the same interests as I do will be a journey I will never forget.

I am very proud to say that I went and represented Western Pennsylvania at the Quarter Horse Congress this year. Not only did I learn a lot and meet some incredible people along the ride, but I had the time of my life and I would do it again in a heart beat.
